The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs From "Promises Broken"

9. DOWN: Pope Isn't Cutting It

The Walking Dead
AMC

And since we're on the Reapers, it's worth shouting-out Pope, the group's threatening leader who started his tenure on the show strong, but has since become a major flaw in the story.

Though initially intimidating and unpredictable, he's spent the last few episodes in the Reapers' compound, yelling at people and slowly losing his effective, villainous edge.

Currently nothing more than a weak plot device, Promises Broken also fails to capitalise on the previous episode's cliffhanger - where it seemed Pope had learned Daryl is acting as a spy for Maggie's group - by simply not mentioning it again.

Weaknesses aside, here's to hoping the next episode finally gives him more to do once he comes into contact with Maggie again, because at the minute he's making a strong case to be seen as the show's worst antagonist to date.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Be excellent to each other. You can catch my other work here: https://halfwaydown.substack.com/
