The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 9 Ups & 1 Down From "On The Inside"

7. UP: Sam Ewing & Bear McCreary's Score

The Walking Dead
AMC

The Walking Dead has always done great things with music, creating unshakable tension and alluding to major twists whenever needed.

But perhaps no episode has used its score better than On the Inside. Written by series veterans Sam Ewing and Bear McCreary, the episode is a tricky juggling act of all-out horror, intense drama, and heart-stopping suspense.

Bringing to mind the work of John Carpenter in the original Halloween, the episode's score is both horribly atmospheric and screeching, ramping up the episode's already tense claustrophobia and mystery to an almost unbearable level.

Considering how horror-driven On the Inside is, it's great to see Ewing and McCreary really swinging for the fences with their music, and amplifying the tension at every twist and turn.
