The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 9 Ups & 1 Down From "On The Inside"
6. UP: Greg Nicotero's Spotless Direction
As of On the Inside, executive producer and special effects maestro Greg Nicotero has directed thirty-three episodes of The Walking Dead, more than any other director in the show.
Since season two he's helmed some of the show's most iconic episodes, and with this latest project once again proves how formidable a talent he really is.
Though some of the previous episodes have in my mind struggled with both tone and pace, On the Inside finds Nicotero effortlessly balancing three strikingly different storylines into one seamless episode, from Kelly's attempts to find her sister, Daryl's undercover drama, and Connie and Virgil's harrowing clash with evil.
Taking influence from the likes of George A. Romero and John Carpenter (two filmmakers he's worked with during his career), Nicotero's work on the episode is his best yet, and it's honestly no contest.
