The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 9 Ups & 1 Down From "On The Inside"

3. UP: The Villains Are Horrifying

The Walking Dead
AMC

Of course, much of the episode's horror wouldn't have been possible with its one-off villains, a group of feral, cannibalistic survivors who are revealed to have lured both Connie and Virgil to the house to kill and most likely eat them.

For most of the episode, the Ferals are unseen but clearly heard, growling and scurrying around on all fours in an attempt to blindside their latest victims. There's a particular moment when one of them slinks into view and ambushes Virgil, and it's about as unsettling as anything the show's ever done.

Though admittedly the group are more effective when they're shrouded in mystery, the very sight of them - deformed, animalistic, and beyond repair - is enough to keep you uncomfortable for the entirety of the episode.

It's also worth noting that the similarities between the Ferals and the people in Maggie's horrifying story from the season premiere are very striking, with both groups highlighting just how much the world has changed...and how not everyone has taken to it in the same way.
