The Walking Dead Season 6: 10 Things Episode 1 Got Right

3. Episode Structure

There was something about the regimental style of the episode that was very satisfying. We're used to seeing the characters aimlessly wandering the woods, much like the undead they hunt, but seeing them with a plan made the entire episode structure seem very effective. Discussing the plan in flashbacks before flying into the action worked. It slowly revealed what was actually going on after the audience were tossed straight into the deep end. Having more tightly structured episodes should be a key mission for the creators to prevent the show from descending into another mess. The Premiere set the tone, will the rest of the season follow?
