You've probably heard that whole urban legend about how cockroaches would survive a nuclear blast. I couldn't tell you for certain whether they could or not, but one thing is for sure, cockroaches can survive during a zombie apocalypse, and Father Gabriel is living proof. He's panicked, he's on edge, he's struggling to cope and adapt to the new world, but after all Rick and the group have done for him, he's still willing to whisper lies to Deanna behind their backs. They could have left Gabriel to rot in his church shelter, but they offered him a lifeline. Even when he tried to flee back at the church, the group took him back. He's just doing bizarre things, including leaving the gate open to Alexandria, allowing a walker to stroll through. Really, Gabriel? REALLY? He hasn't grasped that Rick has protected him since they met, and therefore Gabriel's time is surely up, and nobody will shed a tear.
