The Walking Dead Season 6 Finale: 13 Things Episode 16 Got Horribly Wrong
1. The Cliffhanger
If Negan's scene had been slightly tighter, there would've been enough time to maybe salvage the episode. The first two-thirds of the finale needed radical changes, but from the moment the car headlights flicked on and Negan's arena was set-up, it really did pick up.
The scene was served with razor-sharp tension and a genuine sense of total fear. It was all going fantastically well, to the point where you could almost forget the mediocre moments of the finale. Then the camera dropped into POV mode and hearts everywhere sank.
One of the most dramatic comic book scenes has been cut in half, meaning that while the Season 7 premiere could still be amazing, the momentum has been completely lost, and the season-long buildup for Negan was all for very little.
You could've watched the teaser trailer for the finale and taken a good guess at what was going to happen. Negan would arrive, Negan has a vicious weapon, Negan would kill. We knew that before the ending, rendering the cliffhanger nothing more than a horrible way to string fans along without any pay-off. It's an entertaining show, but Last Day On Earth really was a bleak stain on The Walking Dead's record.
