The Walking Dead Season 7: 10 Best Deaths

The Episode: Bury Me Here

How It Happened: Throughout the season, Richard had been trying to convince everyone he could that war with the Saviors needed to happen, going so far as to be willing to let Carol take the fall and die to make it happen. Ultimately, a misguided attempt to let himself be killed to motivate Ezekiel into fighting caused the death of Benjamin instead, and after Morgan figured it out only for Richard to not cop up to what he had done to Ezekiel, Morgan snapped and kill Richard during another meetup with the Saviors.

Why It's On This List: Richard's motivations made sense, even if his actual actions were often frustrating (like his willingness to let Carol die). The Kingdom needed to enter into war, and though Benjamin needlessly had to die to make it happen, too, the death of Richard came with the added bonus of getting Morgan back in the game as well. The actual event was shocking, especially coming from the show's biggest pacifist, but undeniably memorable for the simple hands-on brutality of it all that left Morgan a changed man once more.
