The Walking Dead Season 7: 3 Things 'Sing Me A Song' Got Right (And 4 It Got Wrong)

3. Carl's Assassination Attempt

The Walking Dead Carl
Gene Page/AMC

God, Carl is just a bit sh*t, isn't he?

He's not the absolute worst, but he's up there (or down there, rather). There was a brief moment when Carl became bearable - he ate some pudding, grew up a bit, Ron took the heat off him - but he's once again infuriating to watch. His scenes with Negan work ok, but mostly because Jeffrey Dean Morgan is working extra hard to pick up the slack.

That wasn't enough to save his failed assassination attempt. Obviously he was never going to succeed, but it still plays out terribly. After getting the jump on the Saviours, and shooting two of them, he just stands there. He has Negan in his sights, but doesn't pull the trigger. And then he's tackled to the floor. It's all very clumsy, and even if that's on purpose - an attempt to show Carl isn't who he professes to be - it doesn't quite come across, and instead just seems a bit dumb.
