The Walking Dead Season 7: 6 Things That Could Go Wrong For Rick
4. Eugene As Negan
In episode 11 we saw Eugene go from a frightened liability to a pickle-crunching, no-nonsense Saviour, spluttering out “I’m Negan” quicker than you can say “Grimblygunk.”
Negan is a master manipulator, as seen in his treatment of Eugene, giving him his own room, video games and even his own cassette of Easy Street. Could it be that they are playing each other? Negan has a short fuse and lot of power, so this could spell disaster for Rick. In taking Eugene, Rick has already lost any chance of making bullets for the guns he's found.
Whether we believe his PhD babbling or not, we know he can definitely make bullets, and his logical thinking is nothing short of a gift to Negan. His quick-thinking idea to better weaponise the walkers at the gates of Negan’s complex shows he has proven his worth to Negan and could affect Rick’s chances of getting inside the complex. In fact, if Rick tries a sneak attack against Negan and comes face to face with metal-covered walkers, it could even get him captured.
Eugene has also shown Negan's wives that he can make homemade explosives and two very dangerous pills. He's enjoying slipping back into his old role as a respected scientist around the complex after being a doormat for so long in Alexandria. Trading his place in the group as a cowardly, socially-awkward nobody to a high-ranking, esteemed member of Negan's army would make him think twice about re-joining the Alexandrians. The power that Negan has given him could seduce him into turning on Rick and using what he knows about the group along with his science skills to take out Rick as he fights to get to Negan.
