The Walking Dead Season 7 Finale: 3 Ups & 5 Downs From 'The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life'
4. The Forced Sentimentality
Sasha's death was already heavily signalled before this episode, but the finale really doubled down on the notion that we were about to watch her die, even if it presented it without a lot of context. We saw her in some sort of dark place, with headphones in, before a series of visions or flashbacks showing her in a conversation with Abraham, and then sitting next to Maggie.
It's a kinda nice idea, but the execution is lacking. Not in the way it pieces those things together and then reveals what we've been seeing, but just in the fact that it's yet another clear example of the show trying in a very obvious and forced way to manipulate the emotions of its audience.
Yes, it's good to see the moustachioed marvel again, but Sasha and Abraham were together for all of five minutes, and when he died they were just embarking on their relationship, so it's weird to present it as something much more than that, especially given she also lost Bob and Tyreese (if it'd been flashbacks of all of them it would've made more sense). If this was for Maggie with Glenn it might've worked, but here it fell rather flat, even if Sasha's actual death was pretty cool.
