The Walking Dead Season 9: 10 Reasons To Actually Be Excited

7. New Faces & The Return Of An Old Character

Walking Dead Season 9
AMC

Nothing quite signifies a brand-new start than bringing in some fresh new blood and it looks like we’ll be meeting at least five new characters in Season 9 with the introduction of Magna and her group.

In the comics they’re a ragtag band consisting of leader Magna and fellow survivors Connie, Kelly, Yumiko and Luke who hail from Washington DC and are rescued from a herd of walkers by Jesus while heading in the direction of the Alexandria Safe Zone.

A few changes have been made adapting their characters for the small screen. Connie, for example, is deaf in the show and her comic book boyfriend Kelly is now her sister. The character castings look hopeful, however, with talents including German actress Nadia Hilker (Spring, The 100) and Dan Fogler (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) taking on the roles of Magna and Luke respectively.

We’ll also see the return of Rick’s former BFF, the long-dead Shane Walsh. Last seen alive at the end of Season 2 before getting stabbed to death by Rick, reanimating as a walker and getting put down by Carl we did see Shane again briefly in Season 3 back when Rick went crazy (for the first time, anyway) and hallucinated him.

It’s assumed Shane’s return will have something to do with Rick again, most likely in the form of a flashback or another hallucination. Exactly how it’ll be executed is unknown but it should be interesting and a blast from the past from when the show was at its peak is a nice bit of fan service for TWD’s most loyal and lasting fans.
