The Walking Dead Season 9: 5 Ups & 0 Downs From 'Scars'

3. The Issues With Judith's Characterisation Are Ironed Out

Speaking of Judith, the young girl has been one of the ninth season's biggest problems in that she doesn't come across like a believable character. While it's long been documented that children can be incredibly intelligent, Judith is simply too wise for her age - so much so that the character feels like nothing more than an extreme plot convenience designed to aid the other protagonists in seeing the errors of their ways.

Scars makes an effort to rectify this problem. For the first time this season, Judith isn't presented as an all-seeing wizard, but rather as a little girl who wants nothing more than to help the people that she loves. Her decision to leave Alexandria to go in search of Daryl and the others almost results in her own death - an incident that allows for her to grow as a character, as she finally realises that she should listen to her mum every now and again. Yes, Judith is a believable character now, and less like walking exposition. Hopefully she'll continue to develop as we head closer to the season finale.

It is worth noting that actress Cailey Fleming delivers a wonderful performance as Judith in this one. Regardless of some of Judith's odd characterisation, Fleming is proving to be a great asset to the show.
