The news that Andrew Lincoln was leaving the show broke all of our collective hearts, but very few people on the show have spoken about the leading man's departure since. However, during Comic-Con, Lincoln confirmed his departure from the show, saying.

"This will be my last season, playing the part of Rick Grimes... I love this show. It means everything to me. I love the people who make this show. I promise not to cry — I’ve done enough crying on screen.”

After reiterating what the initial report said, Lincoln went on to thank the fans for their support over the years.

“I’m particularly fond of the people who watch this show, you people... This has been the most extraordinary, beautiful experience of my career… So I just want to thank you."

How the show will deal with Lincoln's absence has yet to be revealed. We do know that there has been talk of Norman Reedus' character stepping in as the new protagonist, but that would be a difficult transition considering Daryl isn't really an emotive person, therefore it would be tough for him to be the main character.
