The Walking Dead is undeniably a phenomenal success. It garners some of the highest ratings on cable and has a rabid fan base with a hunger that rivals that of its walkers. The story of Rick Grimes, his son Carl and their band of survivors has given us four seasons of captivating television. Unfortunately, this show, more than just about any other hit series, has been plagued with an inconsistency in quality. A revolving door of behind the scenes personnel has been a large part of the up and down nature of the show. Different writers and directors have led to a sometimes contrasting feel from episode to episode. March 30th's season four finale had a polarizing effect on viewers. If Twitter is to be believed (and who am I to doubt the veracity of Twitter?) the finale was either the greatest episode of TV ever or a steaming pile that turned off viewers in droves. Opinions vary, but the consensus seems to take the stance that it was disappointing. I tend to agree, and that's partially a compliment because fans of The Walking Dead hold the show to a higher standard than most. Fair or not, we expect a lot from our zombie apocalypse.
