The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Recap: 6 Ups & 4 Downs From "Years"

1. Up: It's A Solid Start

Despite its flaws, The Ones Who Live seems to be off to a great start; there's potential here for something brilliant in the coming weeks, full of suspense, romance and the trademark humanism and hope that made The Walking Dead such a draw in its heyday.

Leaving room for plenty of answers to still-lingering questions - where's Michonne been? What does Rick plan to do with the CRM? Are newcomers Thorne and Esteban okay? Will we finally see Rick reunite with his children? - "Years" delivers a strong aesthetic and plenty of tension.

As noted, there are flaws to overcome, most notably its hollow villain motivations and jarring time-jumps, but The Ones Who Live has still promised an entertaining run. There's no doubt Rick and Michonne will live happily ever after, but just how much do they still have to face before they get there?

With five episodes to go - "Years" and the next two, "Gone" and "Bye", serving as a poignant call-back to The Walking Dead's long-ago pilot, which also saw Rick searching for his family in a changed world - The Ones Who Live is off to a pretty brilliant start. You love to see it.
