The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs From "Bye"
6. Down: It's Not as Strong as Previous Episodes
Ultimately, "Bye" is not an episode as strong as its predecessors. The flaws are glaring and in some cases quite annoying plot-wise, though it's worth noting they don't overshadow the episode's more striking developments and dramatic highs.
Aside from the predictable plot twists that keep doubling back on themselves and the thin characterisation of Thorne, The Ones Who Live's third outing also has convoluted politics - the whole "A"/"B" thing the CRM uses to recruit and kill people as it sees fit makes absolutely no sense; how are these guys still standing with such a flawed outlook?
It also has pacing issues. Because this spin-off is (apparently) a limited series, six episodes is all we're getting, so the story is really starting to zip by, forcing "Bye" to give us quiet character moments - such as Michonne talking about her kids - complex politics, and big action sequences.
None of "Bye" particularly flows together, and whilst some of its individual parts don't work, many more do, and there's a good chance these highs will be what you're thinking about when the credits start to roll...
