The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs From "Bye"

5. Up: Strong Action

The Ones Who Live
AMC

I don't know what to tell you: After fourteen years, The Walking Dead still has the ability to make killing zombies (sorry, walkers... no, delts) look unbelievably cool.

Not only does "Bye" find Rick in full military gear once more, armed to the teeth with a rifle equipped with a trident-like knife attachment (awesome), it also finds Rick and Michonne working side by side again, thrown into a walker horde and proving that all their time apart hasn't dulled their connection or teamwork.

This sequence in particular is a major standout, a compelling example of the show using action as a plot device rather than just action for action's sake. It's bracing, but it's also in place to explore the current dynamic between its characters, which includes Thorne, so untrusting of Michonne that she almost kills her before Rick saves the day.

The other highlight, which we'll explore in more detail soon, comes at episode's end, with a stormy helicopter ride that throws everything into turmoil. Three episodes in, and it's safe to say everyone should stop getting in the damn helicopters!
