The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Review - 8 Ups & 2 Downs From "What We"

8. Up: We're Free of the CRM (For Now)

The Ones Who Live
AMC

This isn't to criticise the CRM again, it's just that after four hours of watching Rick and Michonne hide themselves from the world and each other, "What We" finally allowing them to get out from under the organisation's shadow works wonders for the show.

By bringing the couple together once more, without fake names and orders to follow, The Ones Who Live has become what it was always meant to be; a show about two people, soulmates separated by tragedy, who are miraculously brought together again and need to save each other from who they've become.

"What We" often feels like a bottle episode (though it doesn't fit the definition), trapping Rick and Michonne in a confined space, away from the bustling world outside, finally - mercifully - given the chance to lay everything bear and give the series the stakes and melodrama it sorely needs to work.

Under the watchful eyes of the CRM, this would never have been possible, and now that they're officially a unit again, Rick and Michonne are all the better for breaking free.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
