The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Review - 8 Ups & 2 Downs From "What We"
7. Up: Rick & Michonne Fight It Out
The centrepiece of this week's drama, as noted, is Rick and Michonne finally having the chance to be themselves and hash out their differences. And what drama!
Cornered by their polarising philosophies, the long-lost couple have no reason to hold back anymore, and hold back they don't. Rick insists, with heartbreaking dejection, that he can't go home with her; Michonne, in turn, voices concern he's not the man he once was, and wonders whether he still loves her.
It's wrenching stuff, visceral and amplified by years of unsaid fears and worries, and it just doesn't stop coming: Michonne leaves Rick to his decision, and when they reunite after an awkward walker attack where their teamwork is horribly fractious, they have sex and seem, for a moment, to be ready to make peace.
It goes on and on like this, with no happy ending in sight, with pulverising secrets revealed, until their differences are settled and they seem to be on the same page. But given all they've said, all they've done and kept hidden, is their newfound reconciliation really going to last?
