The Walking Dead's 10 Best Farewell Episodes

7. Siddiq - Open Your Eyes

The Walking Dead Michonne
AMC

Siddiq is a prime example of a promising character buried by a crowded cast. He’s a doctor which makes him just valuable enough to stick around for as long as he did, and he doesn’t move to the forefront until season 10, specifically in The Calm Before. Just in case you've forgotten, this is the episode in which Alpha kills and decapitates Henry, Enid, and Tara, among others, and places their heads on spikes to draw the line between the Whisperers and the civilized world. Being the only survivor, this does a number on Siddiq, spiraling him into an extreme case of PTSD that he never truly gets over.

Siddiq’s trauma comes to a head in Open Your Eyes when his dwindling mental state causes a captive Whisperer to die because he (well, actually Dante) gave him hemlock - a poison - instead of medication. Throughout the episode, Siddiq suffers from horrific flashbacks to Alpha’s barn house slaughter and is even haunted by the Queen of the Whispers in daytime hallucinations.

Because of this, the episode is visually distinctive, and emotionally engaging as the viewer steps into Siddiq’s shoes, and feels the raw pain and guilt over Enid’s death. In a tragic twist, Dante unwittingly reveals himself to be Alpha’s mole when they fight, it’s a losing battle for the good doctor. This was a proper farewell for an improperly handled character.
