The Walking Dead's 10 Best Farewell Episodes
6. Sasha Williams - The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life
The episode fades in with Sasha entombed in a coffin, listening to music on her headphones. Negan plans to trade Sasha’s life to get Rick and Alexandria to hand over their weapons.
Of course, Sasha won’t allow this to happen, so she takes some cyanide, and rests in a coffin to wait for the poison to kick in as Negan’s caravan marches toward Alexandra. When Negan opens it to parade his prisoner to Rick, Sasha, now a walker, pounces at Negan.
While her death and the circumstances may be a tad...dramatic, it was nevertheless a noble sacrifice of Sasha who, since Abraham’s death, has been on a warpath. In fact, the emotional core of the episode actually revolves around a series of flashbacks interspersed throughout the episode.
In these flashbacks, we’re taken back to that fateful day the group escorted a pregnant Maggie to Hilltop, a road trip that ended with Glenn and Abraham’s heads brutally bashed in by Negan. Sasha urges Abraham not to go, but Abraham reminds her that helping others is the right thing to do.
These are tender moments between the former couple, and Sasha’s arc concludes when she pushes her vendetta aside to sacrifice herself to save her friends. For the first time in a long time, she’s at peace. As the audience, we get to say goodbye to Abraham as well.
