The Walking Dead's 10 Best Farewell Episodes

Lori falls under the aforementioned category of characters fans “love to hate.” In Killer Within, Rick works with Glen, Daryl, T-Dog, Axel, and Oscar to clear out the walker-infested prison courtyard. Our heroes quickly lose control as T-Dog is bitten and Carl and Maggie help a pregnant Lori flee into their cell block for safety. As they race through the prison halls, the stress causes Lori to go into labor, so they’re forced to take refuge in the boiler room.

Unfortunately, Lori begins to hemorrhage, and she instructs Maggie to perform an emergency c-section. In a tear-filled goodbye, Lori tells Carl, “don’t let the world spoil you.” Judith is born, and Carl shoots Lori to prevent her from turning.

Queue the waterfalls. But it gets worse. When the smoke clears, and the walkers are handled, Carl and Maggie emerge with baby Judith. Rick reels when he realises what happened, and his reaction is devastating.

While this episode isn’t a Lori-centric episode, it is a mother’s farewell to a son, a son’s goodbye to a mother, and a son’s loss of childhood and innocence. This singular event changes Rick and Carl for the remainder of the series.
