The Witcher Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

3. The Fantastic Action Sequences

One of the show's big highlights is the abundance of superbly-crafted action sequences.

For the most part these set-pieces are focused less on grandiose CGI battles and more localised, practical swordfights, which are both brilliantly bloody and beautifully choreographed.

Henry Cavill, to his credit, has clearly put a ton of effort into the physical aspect of these scenes, while the slick camerawork ensures we're always spatially aware of what's going on.

If it's tough to make swordfighting feel both unique and exciting on-screen these days, The Witcher manages to do something different with it. There's a striking freneticism to Geralt's fighting style that's quite unlike anything else in the genre as of late.
