The Witcher Season 2: 10 Things We'd Love To See

5. The Monsters

Leshen, Nekkers, Wraiths, Werewolves - the list goes on and on. Some of the best quests from the games and best stories in the books deal with complex monsters and the people tied up with them.

When the range of monsters is as broad and varied as they are in this franchise there is no excuse for a lack of them. Artistically they can be utterly outstanding; a Leshen is a terrifying creature of twisted wood and bone, easily a nightmare inducing horror in hands of a good visual effects department.

Likewise Nightwraiths, Noonwraiths and the other spectres have a distinctly individual look, twisted representations of the people they were and the things they did in life that prevent them from passing on into the next world.

Even werewolves, perhaps the most recognisable monster in The Witcher series, can be the creations of curses from plots of intrigue and acts of regret, rather than the usual midnight snack we get in other franchises.

With this kind of source material to draw from, the monsters we're yet to see could be some truly atmospheric, deeply stylised creations.

My passion for all things Sci Fi goes back to my earliest days, when old VHS copies of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet gripped my tiny mind with their big, noisy vehicles and terrifying puppets. I'd like to say my taste got more refined over the years, but between the Warhammer, Space Dandy and niche Star Wars EU books, perhaps it just got broader. I've enjoyed games of all calibre since I figured out that dice weren't just for eating, and have written prose ever since I was left unsupervised with some crayons next to a white wall. I got away with it by calling it "schoolwork" for as long as I could, and university helped me keep the charade going a while longer. Since my work began to get published, it's made all those long hours repainting the walls seem worth it.
