The X-Files: 10 Best Characters Only In One Episode
8. Augustus Cole (Sleepless)
Played by the deep-voiced Tony Todd, best known for being the Candyman in the hit horror classic, Augustus Cole was a bible-thumping ex Vietnam soldier who was also an unfortunate victim of a US super-soldier program. Specifically, where they took an entire squad of men and completely removed their need to sleep.
Decades after the war's end these soldiers still cannot sleep despite badly wanting too, which drove Augustus Cole deep into insanity. His lack of sleep also gave him a unique psychic power where he can bring people's unconsciousness into their reality and even kill them with it.
Cole uses this power to hunt down his fellow squadmates along with the doctors who performed the experiments on him, using dreams to gun down some and even trick Mulder into almost shooting a crowd of innocent people.
Mulder and new partner/spy Alex Krycek learn that Cole's squad had the highest kill count of soldiers and civilians in the entire Vietnam war due to the experiments, as well as increased psychosis and PTSD from their actions and lack of sleep.
Mulder and Krycek were able to corner Cole in an abandoned section of a train station where he forced Krycek to shoot him by making him believe that Cole had a gun when it was just his bible. Finally helping Augustus Cole get the sleep he desperately needed.
