Make no mistake - this is the new era of The X-Files. Right off the bat, the opening montage of the trailer switches from Washington, D.C. to a satellite in orbit, likely implied to be a spy satellite. Rest assured, Chris Carter and 1013 Productions have not been sitting on their laurels ignoring the world around us. They're very aware that in the Snowden, Manning, Wikileaks era, the government is more suspect than ever before. Mulder's paranoia over government conspiracies would fit right in with modern happenstance, and for good reason. So right off the bat, the tone is set. Also keep in mind: Chris Carter has gone on record as saying he has been keeping track of news stories that could easily be X-Files in this day and age.
