The X-Files: 10 Ways To Continue The Franchise

7. An Animated Series

Buffy was going to do it, but it never got off the ground. Why not try it with The X-Files? If the actors can't handle the workload - and that's no fault of theirs, as they all have busy careers - why not try an animated series? The X-Files comic book run has turned out to be relatively popular, as has other tie-in material, such as several original novels. With the added publicity from the revival, an animated series could work - provided it was done right. Key to it would be look and tone: it would have to be adult-oriented, dark, with top notch animation. Fans simply wouldn't stand for it otherwise. And what about voice work? You might be hard pressed to sell anyone other than the original actors voicing Mulder and Scully.
