Titans: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Jason Todd

3. His Face Was Burned By The Joker

Jason Todd
DC Comics

The history between Jason Todd and the Joker is well-documented, but there is much more to their story than that fateful Death In The Family storyline. In the New 52’s Red Hood and The Outlaws, the recently-returned Jason teamed up with various anti-heroes, seeking redemption for many of his past sins. As expected, this inevitably led to him crossing paths with the Joker.

After spending some time in Wayne Manor, saying goodbye to various faces from his past, Jason prepared to leave and continue his (anti)heroics. However, as he placed his red helmet back on, he was confronted by a hologram of the Joker. The Clown Prince of Crime voiced his disappointment about Jason’s resurrection and, in one last act of defiance, wanted to destroy his former victim one more time - without actually killing him.

The red helmet immediately filled with acid and, although Batman removed it as quickly as he could, Jason’s face was severely burned. As a result, he ended up in an induced coma, battling the Joker in his nightmares – a battle that he eventually won.
