Titans Season 2: 5 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Atonement'

2. Gar and Conner's Bromance

Titans Season 2
DC Universe

The biggest bonus of Titans' return to its old separation days was a rather unexpected one, as it left Gar all alone in Titans Tower... well, sort of. Tasked with looking after the unconscious Conner and his beloved dog Krypto, Gar attempted to do his best for the team that the loved so dearly... even if none of them were there to see it. But even though he got lonely and bored rather quickly, the spotlight remained firmly on him - a spotlight that he hasn't received in far too long.

But as fun as the moody montages were, it was the warm friendship he formed with Conner that quickly won this writer's heart. Watching the pair bond over video games and superheroism, 'Atonement' didn't just come up with a believable way of letting Gar thrive in his natural habitat, it provided two characters who could have struggled for placement in the narrative with an authentic progression of their respective storylines.

Gar has always been one of the most underappreciated of the Titans, while Conner had the disadvantage of showing up at a time when everyone else was preoccupied with something else, so it was a stroke of genius to pair them up and let them have a bit of fun. Furthermore, the bromance chemistry between Ryan Potter and Joshua Orpin was incredibly natural and that, more than anything, added some much-needed levity to an otherwise heavy episode.

Granted, Conner's subsequent misunderstanding of who the good guys are tanked all of that happiness, but it has left things in an interesting place going forward - a place that will once again give Gar some well-deserved screen-time.

Speaking of which...
