Titans Season 2 Finale: 6 Ups & 5 Downs From ‘Nightwing’

2. Closure For Dick And Bruce

Titans Bruce Wayne Dick Grayson
DC Universe

Dick's transformation into the corrupted Robin that he was in the first season stemmed from a lot of darkness within his heart. We now know that at the root of that darkness was guilt because he blamed himself for what happened to Jericho, but the first season led us to believe that the Boy Wonder held father figure Bruce Wayne (a.k.a. Batman) personally responsible for turning him into the shell of himself that he once was.

Season 2, however, has told something of a different tale as the introduction of Iain Glen's Bruce Wayne has allowed viewers to actually see the pair interact. Through those interactions, it was clear that their relationship was that of an estranged father and son that, although they care about each other, decide to take the 'business as usual' route instead of actually discussing their feelings. Awkward perhaps, but certainly not resentful.

The finale brought that full circle, as Bruce's presence at the team's memorial dinner for Donna allowed the pair to talk. This season had already given Dick plenty of opportunities to realise that Bruce wasn't the big bad Bat he made him out to be, but it was this conversation that ultimately patched up their relationship.

From the humourous remarks to the affectionate smiles they shared, it was genuinely heartwarming to see this pair acknowledge the good that they've done for each other and to, finally, overcome the darkness that separated them.

On that note, it's been a joy to watch Iain Glen as Bruce throughout the season. He's done a great deal to prove his critics wrong and delivered a solid interpretation of the character that quickly became one of the standout aspects of the show. Let's hope he gets to do it again in Season 3.
