5. Bodie

This smart-mouthed corner boy stayed loyal to the Barksdale crew and he paid the ultimate price. I can't count how many times we've seen Bodie slammed against a wall or patrol car, but watching him interact with the cops was always a treat, especially when he was pinched in Hamsterdam and he claimed they couldn't press charges because it was "Contrapment". One of the most memorable scenes from the first season is when D'Angelo Barksdale teaches the game of chess to Bodie and Wallace. This scene sets up the whole thesis of the show. We're all pieces, players, tools, pawns-all in the game. All three of these characters would meet their tragic fates being eliminated by other players in the game. From the time that Bodie kills Wallace to Bodie's own death, we forgave him and I have no doubt most of the audience wanted to see a happier ending. But that's not how the game works, is it?
