True Detective: 10 Dream Castings For Season 4
1. Charlize Theron And Clive Owen
Charlize Theron, like so many others on this list, has an eccentric back catalogue of movies in her roster. With one Oscar win (Moster) and another nomination (North County), she’s also featured in Mad Max, Young Adult, The Burning Plains, Fast & Furious and Prometheus.
Add in the ludicrous ones like A Million Ways To Die In The West and Gringo, and you’ll find a wonderful actress always pushing her limits and willing to take risks. Atomic Blonde especially showcases how brilliant she’d be in the HBO drama.
Clive Owen’s filmography has narrower range, though most would next to Theron’s. In there though, you’ll find Sin City, Closer and Children Of Men; all movies that sit comfortably with True Detective, while The Knick shows he’s able to carry his talent over to TV too.
Owen is apparently quite nice in real life, but his characters often have a thuggish, sometimes sexist edge to them. Theron on the other hand, takes no prisoners. He brings with him something of the old school, and she’d be fascinating to watch as a brilliant talent struggling to be taken seriously in whatever era Pizzolatto sets Season Four in.
These two would be an absolute powder keg together.
