True Detective: 10 Dream Castings For Season 4
8. Evan Peters And Rami Malek
If they play Season 4 safe, these two likely won’t get a look in. However, if they decide to take a risk with two younger stars, in Malek and Peters they’d have two actors whose stock is set to rise for years to come.
Along with Sarah Paulson, many would credit Evan Peters with carrying the American Horror Story franchise with his (often subtly) dark characters. Paulson has broken out into Crime Story, Carol and Glass, while Peters has instead gone to X-Men to establish himself as a blockbuster name.
Speaking of subtlety, while Malek’s performance as Freddie Mercury was over the top by design, his roles in Mr. Robot and BoJack Horseman are both more reserved and nuanced. Two young guns on their first case could be a cracking story.
Both actors have an air of cockiness about them when they turn it on, and as such a pairing with a more grizzled, older actor may be better. However, seeing two idealistic, slightly naive detectives changed in different ways by the twisted darkness of the crime they uncover would be a bold new direction for the show to take.
