True Detective: 10 Dream Castings For Season 4
7. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau And Kristen Stewart
Put down the pitchforks for a second. Yes, Stewart is absolutely cardboard in Twilight, but if you’ve seen the rest of her career you’ll know how much of a splotch on her record that is.
She pretty much steals the show in Still Alice (along with the Oscar-winning turn from Julianne Moore), and has an ethereal grit in The Clouds Of Sils Maria and Personal Shopper.
As for Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, he’ll be in need of a new role once Game Of Thrones reaches its electrifying conclusion this May. He has an easy charm in his performance as Jaime, one that hides the struggles and insecurities underneath. Later series explore this complexity well, as True Detective would allow him to flex his subtle talent once more.
As for their pairing, Stewart does best when bouncing off someone; she’d be the Marty to Coster-Waldau’s Rust. Also, in Game Of Thrones, Lena Heady’s reserved approach to Cersei, only letting her emotions burst out when she’s at her most venomous, is very similar to Stewart’s style; this pair could have an unpredictably brilliant chemistry.
Stewart brings a disaffected coldness while Coster-Waldau has charisma to spare; they could be a modern-day Mulder and Scully.
