True Detective: 5 Crazy Theories On How It Will End

3. Maggie Is In The Cult

And what about Maggie, Marty's wife? What if nothing was actually done to Audrey? What if the drawings and the dolls are just things that she's seen? What if her mother introduced her to these dark activities as a form of initiation? It's crazy, but think about it and it transforms nearly every episode of the show. When Maggie visited Rust, was she looking for information? Why did she lie outright to the detectives interviewing her? She didn't have any loyalty to Marty or Rust at that point, so perhaps she was simply protecting herself, and her Tuttle connections. Maggie never appeared shocked at the news of the murder, and though death is nothing new as a detective's wife, it's a particularly gruesome scene, which had an emotional impact on seasoned detectives. She's always eager to distract Rust, introduce him to women, get him to settle down. And why did Rust mow the Hart family lawn? Because he wanted to pop round to chat up his partner's wife, or because he wanted to investigate the family?
