True Detective Preview: What To Expect From Season 2 Episode 1

3. More Female Characters

Rachel McAdams will be playing Ani Bezzerides, one of the main characters on the show and described as a €œVentura County Sheriff€™s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves.€ It sounds as though it€™s definitely going to be a meaty role and, being True Detective, one that comes with a lot of complexity and dark secrets as well. Aside from Bezzerides, there will be a recurring role for Kelly Reilly as Jordan Seymon, wife of Vince Vaughn€™s Frank, a D-list actress who is a partner in all of her husband€™s enterprises, and a guest role for Lolita Davidovich as the mother of Taylor Kitsch€™s Paul Woodrugh. The major criticism of season one was the poor portrayal of its female characters, something necessitated by the fact it was a close-look at the world from the point of view of two very messed-up male characters. Nonetheless, it looks like it's something it has improved here, and the first episode should give us a good look at the €œhard women€ promised to be featuring this year.
