1. What The Critics Have Been Saying
The first three episodes have already been seen by some critics, and the reviews that have followed have been a rather mixed-bag. The biggest problem seems to be that it doesnt live up to the first season, which was always going to be a monumental task giving the quality of the writing, directing and acting in it, as well as the mystery that people allowed themselves to get caught up in, and the fact that it came without as much hype. Ignoring comparisons to the first season though, and there are some positives.
Entertainment Weekly gave the episodes a B, which is a fairly solid start to what is essentially like a new show, while
Vulture stated that it often plays like a cousin of The Wire as directed by Michael Mann. This is going to be a different beast to the first season, and expectations should be adjusted accordingly. Go in wanting more of the same and it sounds as though youll be disappointed, but forget the past and embrace the future of the show and it should be another exciting journey through the dark, twisted mind of Pizzolatto. Thankfully there isnt too much longer to wait to find out.
