True Detective Season 2 Trailer: 10 Things You Need To Know

8. Taylor Kitsch As Paul Woodrugh

On the other side of the equation is Taylor Kitsch as Paul Woodrugh, €œa war veteran and motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol, running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened€, who sounds very much like he's this season's Rust Cohle €“ although hopefully one with less of a propensity for quoting Thomas Ligotti, because just look at the hot water that landed the show in last time they did it. Kitsch doesn't quite has McConaughey's public history, but his physical transformation is still rather stark €“ previously the young actor has been one for pretty-boy roles, a sort of second-string Channing Tatum who fronts (failed) blockbusters like John Carter, Battleship, that sort of thing. The guy played Gambit, the douchiest X-Men, in that first Wolverine film and all. Here, though, Kitsch looks emaciated, haunted, ill. Perhaps even more so than McConaughey's Rust, which is saying something. His history sounds a bit Rust as well, since he too struggled with demons in his past. Woodrugh looks to be on an even more dangerous path, however, stumbling into a criminal underground of bare-knuckle boxing and the like. McAdams may very well be his boss.
