True Detective Season 3: 8 Ways It's Saved The Show
1. It’s Complex, Not Complicated
True Detective is not an easy watch. Having said that, it doesn’t need to be a frustratingly difficult watch either. While it’s not the kind of thing you can get away with just having on in the background, it also shouldn’t take several rewatches to understand exactly what’s going on.
This time around, though there’s definitely enough intrigue to keep audiences guessing, you don’t need to read a scene by scene guide to catch up for next week. Simply put, it’s perfectly pitched and back to its best.
Season 2 suffered from a problem that has hamstrung the likes of Westworld, Thirteen Reasons Why, and Pappis Cisse previously: second season syndrome.
Fans loved the twists, turns and red herrings of the first season, the same way that Westworld fans loved the out of sync timelines and Thirteen Reasons Why fans loved the in your face attitude towards controversial taboo issues. In all three instances, the shows decided to just throw more at the audience, and every time it felt like too much.
Unfortunately for Newcastle United fans though, Cisse didn’t decide to just score more goals. Shame.
This time around, True Detective has just the right amount of twists you keep you guessing.
