Twin Peaks: The Return Premiere Review: 7 Ups & 4 Downs

2. The Ultra-Intense Atmosphere

So many revival shows fail to capture the feel and tone of the original show, but Twin Peaks perfectly nails the eerie anxiety of the first two series, albeit amplified many times over to be almost unbearably intense at times.

The combination of that ominous droning hum of a soundtrack, the jarring visuals and spot-on performances across-the-board combine to make The Return among Lynch's most disturbing works to date, with a pervasive air of dread that few other filmmakers can match.

If he can sustain this discomforting tone for another 14 hours, it'd be damn impressive, but so far, so good.
