Umbrella Academy: 10 Obscure Comic Books Netflix Should Adapt Next
3. The Wicked + The Divine
The Wicked + The Divine is a truly unique comic book in how it manages to simultaneously feel like a collection of ideas that could easily sustain their own individual works, but also like a poetically constructed whole that makes the best out of some very interesting concepts.
An ongoing comic by ex-gaming journalist Kieron Gillen, The Wicked + The Divine is a profound study of Life, Death and mythology, based around the idea that every 90 years, the spirits of ancient deities are reincarnated as superhuman people in our world.
A premise as high-concept and rife with potential as that isn't particularly hard to come by in the medium of comic books, but it is in the series' many nuanced characters that the potential for a truly unique TV show can be seen.
A comic book that never seems to stop juggling relationships, self-contained arcs and explorations of provocative themes, you can almost see The Wicked + The Divine in pride of place on Netflix's home screen.
