Ever since he sheepishly knocked on Vanya's door so he could "learn the violin", Leonard always came across as a bit of strange guy. Whether it was his awkward smile or almost desperate attempts to try and get Vanya to go on a date with him, he always came across as more of a superhero stalker than potential love interest.

So when Allison does some snooping around and finds out that Leonard isn't quite who he says he is, it results in a showdown between him and Vanya. While he was able to help her gain control of her powers, Leonard shows his true colours when she confronts him, playing against the insecurities she has and throwing one manipulative verbal jab after another at the already distraught and confused Vanya.

Although they clearly brought her a lot of pain, it was needed to bring Vanya over the edge and she just did that by turning Leonard into a human voodoo doll, making sure every bit of cutlery and kitchenware is impaled into his body. A fittingly grisly end for an extremely creepy character.
