Vikings: 10 Most Disturbing Moments
7. Torstein's Amputation
In the pre-medical world of today, surgical procedures were certainly not as delicate. This scene was inevitably going to happen during the show, as amputation was a standard part of being a warrior in humanity's earlier history. Wounds get infected, and limbs need to be lost. Still, seeing Torstein enlisting the help of Floki to amputate his left arm after an arrow left it infected wasn't something that viewers were keen to observe.
Part of what makes this scene even more disturbing is the absolute casual nature of it. Despite the fact that someone's limb is about to be severed, Floki and the others are surprisingly calm and jovial about the situation. Even Torstein himself doesn't seem to be particularly phased, joking that he never liked his left arm anyway.
After Floki heats an axe, he severs the infected limb and the others work quickly to cauterise the wound. This scene would, of course, not be the end of Torstein, but still, seeing him lose his left arm was painful, and his guttural cries as the procedure played out were genuinely distressing.
