Vikings: 10 Most Disturbing Moments
4. Ivar Leaves His Infant Son To Die
Sometimes, all a scene needs to be utterly disturbing is the quiet context of the situation. This series was full of bombastic and grotesque violence, yet while a lot of that is memorable for its disturbing visuals, this horrifying scene that saw Ivar leave his son to die, was disturbing purely thanks to the death in question.
While Ivar might not have been the biological father of the young Baldur - named after the son of Odin - it was still clear that the boy was going to mean everything to him. However, after he discovered that his newly born son had a deformity, he decided to take him out during the night and leave him to die. It's later learned that foxes devoured his body.
The scene itself is woefully tragic, as Ivar speaks to his son one last time, and states that he cannot allow his son to live, out of fear that he would suffer the same ridicule and pain that he had thanks to his own disability.
This entire sequence is so quiet and calm, which makes it even more horrifying. But the most disturbing moment has to be the desperate cries and screams of young Baldur as Ivar leaves him.
There's hardly anything more upsetting to watch than infanticide.
