Vikings: 10 Most Disturbing Moments
3. Ivar Sets Thora Ablaze
Poor, poor Thora, she really didn't deserve this.
This character positively influenced the show, as her relationship with Hvitserk was a genuinely great dynamic, and the two shared a beautiful bond. However, it all came crashing down after she made her views on Ivar's rulership clear, and he responded with a brutal punishment.
After rubbing red paint onto the unfortunate woman and sending her on her way, Thora runs into her father and other decentres of Ivar, who have all been similarly marked for death. Viewers - and Thora herself - are then forced to watch as these harmless innocents are doused in flammable liquid and burned to death.
Eventually, Thora is treated to the same fate, as she is knocked to the ground, and you watch as the fire creeps up her body, killing her slowly, but painfully.
The entire sequence is heart-pounding, and the constant cuts to Hvitserk's meeting with Olaf reminds you of the pair's relationship and how this will affect him. Simply put, watching such a likeable character and her family be brutally burned to death is nothing short of horrifying.
