Vikings: 10 Most Hated Supporting Characters
8. Svein
Everywhere Earl Haraldson went, he was joined almost to the hip by his weasel-like lackey, Svein. He disrespected Ragnar every chance he could with deadpan put-downs, but only when Haraldson was near, figuratively using his leader as a human shield.
Although he doesn't have the stones to take to the battlefield, Svein relishes inflicting pain. While torturing his victims, you can see he carries out these deplorable tasks, not out of sacred duty, but out of enjoyment. Since he also has no qualms with murdering children, it's a safe bet that there's no deed he won't carry out if he believed it pleased his king.
He is so utterly devoted to Haraldson, he neglected to obey the fundamental laws of Kattegat when they were not to his master's liking. When Ragnar fairly defeated Haraldson in battle, Svein refused to accept this outcome. Even though Ragnar's victory ensured he could claim the throne, Svein ordered his cohorts to kill him, assuming they would obey him without question. The people ignored his demands and Rollo slaughtered Svein then and there, much to everyone's delight.
