Vikings: 10 Most Hated Supporting Characters
6. Gisla
To put an end to the conflict with Kattegat, the French Emperor, Charles II, offered his daughter, Gisla, to marry Ragnar's brother, Rollo. Not wanting any more blood spilt, Ragnar accepted these terms.
But since Gisla was a strong-willed Christian, she couldn't picture a scenario worse than marrying a pagan savage. Gisla's resentment towards her father was understandable but her blind hatred at her new husband was completely unwarranted. Even though he was raised to embrace savagery and hedonism, Rollo was so smitten by the young princess, he treated her with boundless kindness. Doing his best to fulfil his duty as a French noble, Rollo dressed the part, taught himself the country's customs, and learned the language.
Unfortunately, his actions were fruitless since his Gisla belittled him, encouraged her maids to laugh at him, spat in his face, and screamed at him in public. When she tried to stab him, Rollo showed unrealistic restraint by laughing it off.
Only after Rollo protected Gisla from an assassination attempt did she begin to accept her husband's love. Although she grew to love him and bore three of his children, it was only after he tolerated her unnecessary cruelty.
