Vikings: 10 Most Hated Supporting Characters
5. Kalf
When Lagertha had to venture to Wessex, she needed a loyal subject to look after Hedeby in her absence. Believing her advisor, Kalf, was trustworthy, Lagertha appointed him as a steward.
Although Kalf appeared to be devout to his cause up until this point, he was secretly playing the long game. After Lagertha returned, she learned Kalf had usurped her throne. He also admitted he always coveted her, which is the only reason he supported her. When Lagertha ordered him to relinquish his power, he offered to share the throne with her if she married him. Lagertha agreed, only to slit her husband's throat on the wedding day.
Even though the series is stuffed with duplicitous scoundrels, the viewer can usually tell where a character's allegiance truly stands. When Oleg and Ivar pretended to be friendly and noble, we knew they were putting on a facade to get what they want.
However, Kalf genuinely came across as a good man. He played the role of the loyal servant so well, it's like he believed it himself. In reality, he was simply biding his time, waiting for right the moment to pounce.
