Vikings: Every Character Based On Real Historical Figures
18. Aslaug
Aslaug is one of those characters that is written about in history as a real person, but with a mythological vibe. She was the daughter of the legendary hero Sigurd and a valkyrie named Brynhild, but she was taken care of by Brynhild's foster father.
When he was killed by a couple of poor farmers, they found Aslaug and raised her as their daughter, though they made sure she was miserable and covered in dirt to hide her beauty. She was eventually discovered by Ragner, who was so taken with her beauty and wit that he married her.
In the show she is portrayed as Ragnar Lothbrok's second wife and the mother of Ubbe, Hvitserk, Sigurd, and Ivar. However, the historical figure was said to be his third wife and the mother or Hvitserk, Sigurd, Ivar, and Bjorn, not Ubbe.
